Johor & Sabah cooperation

Johor and Sabah to co-operate on tourism

The Johor Tourism Ministry will evaluate and learn from the Sabah Tourism Board’s success to come up with short and long-term plans that will benefit both states.

Johor Tourism Committee chairman Hoo Seong Chang said the two states could benefit from a symbiotic relationship that could widen and enhance their tourism sectors.

He was speaking during a three-day visit to Sabah over the weekend by 20 delegates from the Johor tourism industry.

“Johor and Sabah have many similarities and this trip is to enhance ties between the two states and create joint tourism projects that will boost the sector.

“We also want to learn how to enhance our golf-tourism sector as Sabah has successfully recorded many visits from golfers the world over,” he said.

An initial move would be to provide better packages that would introduce golfers coming to Sabah to stop by in Johor and vice versa as well, he added.

He said that Johor had 15 golf courses while Sabah had only 10.

“Other than this, we are here to study how to increase incoming international flights to Senai International Airport,” he said.

Although Johor surpassed Sabah in number of visitors, Sabah had tourists arriving by air from more than 10 neighbouring countries, he said.
