The myBas public intracity bus service, expected to commence in Johor Baru in August, will have the largest fleet in the country.
It will involve 249 buses, 222 diesel buses and 27 electric buses connecting major areas within Johor Baru.
“The bus services will be provided in four phases and the fleet in Johor is the biggest compared to other states.
“The fares will range between RM1 and RM4, depending on the distance,” said Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) acting chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.
Among the areas the service will cover are Setia Indah, Kempas, Ulu Tiram, Gelang Patah, Senai International Airport, Permas Jaya, Selesa Jaya, Taman Universiti, Pulai Indah, Larkin, Taman Tan Sri Yaakob, Pasir Gudang, Terminal Kota Masai, Terminal Pasir Gudang, Bukit Indah, Taman Flora Heights, Bakar Batu, Seri Alam, and Johor Premium Outlet.

To facilitate this service, SPAD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with network operator Handal Indah Sdn Bhd.
The ceremony was witnessed by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Mohamed Khaled said building the network of infrastructure and public amenities was key to the city’s development.
“In the next 10 years, Johor wants to be an important economic player in Malaysia and have an influential regional position.
“This cannot be achieved if Johor Baru does not have a developed network of infrastructure,” he said at the signing of the MoU.
Under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme, the government is expected to spend about RM90mil per year in Johor Baru.
SPAD chief operating officer Qamar Wan Noor said ridership for buses was expected to increase by 31% to 44,145 passengers from the 33,610 currently in Johor Baru in the next five years.
“On average, we have seen an increase in ridership of between 5% and 15% for the existing bus services provided in other cities,” she said.
Currently, the bus service is provided in Kangar, Seremban, Ipoh and Kuala Terengganu.
Qamar said SPAD planned to launch the myBas service in Alor Setar and Melaka this year.
