PLUS: Plan your Raya trip
Two million vehicles are expected to be on the highways during the peak period of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season and those heading back to their hometowns are advised to plan their trips well.
PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said he expected traffic volume to increase by 18% from the usual 1.7 million vehicles on normal days.
PLUS, he said, would also issue its travel time advisory (TTA) schedule to help people plan their balik kampung and balik kota travel between May 30 and June 10.
“PLUS has made various preparations in terms of highway operations and traffic distribution strategy to help drivers travel safer and more comfortably this festive season,” Azman said at a media briefing yesterday.
Those who are heading to nearer locations such as Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Selangor are advised to enter the highway after 10am.
Motorists can also get the TTA schedule via the PLUS mobile application.
The application also has an “SOS” button which allows help to be channelled immediately when turned on.
It provides real time CCTV footage from over 1,400 CCTV cameras on the highways.
“You can state your starting point and destination and it will show the traffic conditions.
“The CCTV footages are also updated every 10 seconds,” said Azman.
Motorists are advised to top up their Touch ‘n Go cards as the reload lanes on the highways will be closed from May 30 to June 11 to avoid congestion.
PLUS chief operating officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi advised the public, especially motorcyclists, to avoid using the emergency lanes on the highway.
“We would like to advise motorcyclists to wear bright-colour clothing to make themselves more visible, and if possible, travel during the day for better visibility,” he said.
PLUS will also place about 5,000 of its personnel on the North-South Expressway to help motorists.
Drones will also be used to facilitate traffic management at strategic locations on the highways.
Earlier, PLUS also unveiled its Hari Raya Aidilfitri video titled Tumpang which signifies the concessionaire’s endeavour to provide a meaningful journey for its customers.
Tumpang is about two men whose lives are unexpectedly intertwined.
The video also highlights the concept of silaturahim (friendship).
It can be viewed through all PLUS social media platforms as well as on YouTube.

S'pore and M'sia to defer JB-Woodlands RTS Link till Sept 30
Singapore and Malaysia to defer Johor Baru-Woodlands RTS Link till Sept 30

SINGAPORE (ANN): Singapore and Malaysia will defer construction of a cross-border MRT link up till Sept 30 this year.
As part of the deal, Malaysia will also reimburse Singapore for the costs incurred as a result of the six-month suspension of the planned Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.
Singapore's Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan and his counterpart Anthony Loke met on Tuesday (May 21) at the PSA Building, where Singapore's Transport Ministry is located.
They will sign an agreement to formalise the six-month suspension.
"If not, the RTS Link Project will be deemed to have been terminated by Malaysia, and Malaysia will reimburse Singapore for the costs we have incurred in fulfilling our RTS Link obligations till now," said Khaw.
Khaw said the decision to suspend the RTS Link Project will affect the Land Transport Authority's contractors and bidders involved in the development, as well as SMRT, which is Singapore's Joint Venture partner for the RTS Link operator.
Malaysia had earlier requested for a six-month suspension of the project from April 1, saying that it needed to review the costs, including how to bring them down further.
The 4km RTS link - which would connect Woodlands North station on Singapore's Thomson-East Coast MRT Line to Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru - was targeted to begin operations by Dec 31, 2024.
However, Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has said in March that the opening deadline would not be met. - The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Desaru Coast aims big for international wedding tourism
Desaru Coast aims big for international wedding tourism
Desaru Development Holdings Sdn Bhd -- the master developer of Desaru Coast Resort here plans to promote the integrated resort as a preferred wedding choice for international tourists.
Its chief executive officer Roslina Arbak said Desaru Coast has its own distinct attraction to offer newly wed couples, including the advantage of owning a world-renowned chain of hotels and resorts, convention centres, a theme water park, golf course and a beautiful coastline as well to complete the package.
“Several months ago, I participated in a road show in India and they showed keen interest on our wedding packages (in Desaru), for family vacations and also to conduct business.
“So India could potentially be one of our (Desaru Coast) biggest market for weddings,” she told Bernama after officiating the opening of the ‘Desaru Coast Gourmet Series; Malaysian Journey Farm To Table’, which was also attended by Australian executive chef Christopher James Miller, here recently.
Roslina, however, said while much attention is being given to the foreign market, the domestic scene was still firmly in sight as it also plays a vital role in terms of revenue.
“The (domestic) market is very important to us. Even during off season, locals are constantly heading here for conventions, meetings, training and so on,” she said.

Tanjung Belungkor ferry service easy alternative route for Singaporeans to Desaru
The Tanjung Belungkor ferry service near Pengerang here is an easy alternative for Singaporeans wanting to holiday in the country especially in Desaru.
Director-general of Tourism Malaysia Datuk Musa Yusof said the journey from Changi Ferry Terminal only takes 35 minutes and each ferry can take 100 passengers each trip.
He said this will increase tourist arrivals in Desaru which has an abundance of tourism products such as well-known hotels and a 17-kilometer coastline.
“Some people say the situation at the Johor Causeway takes Singaporeans three to four hours to cross the border.
“Many do not know that with the ferry, they can come here within 35 minutes,” he told reporters after a dialogue session with Malaysian and Singaporean tourism industry players at the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort and Spa here today.
Musa said the dialogue session with 80 industry players including tour agents will hopefully promote tourism products between the two countries.
“In the dialogue, we asked them what issues or problems we can address for them,” he said.
“Among the things we noted was that services could be improved such as the ferry terminal, the shuttle bus, and others,” he said.

Revitalising the heritage of Kampung Melayu Majidee
Revitalising the heritage of Kampung Melayu Majidee
Johor Baru mayor Datuk Amran A Rahman (second right) said the move to upgrade the village was contained in the draft of Johor Baru Special Area Plan 2030 (RKK 2030). NSTP/HAIRUL ANUAR RAHIM
Kampung Melayu Majidee here will undergo a makeover and be upgraded to City Heritage status to make it a major tourist attraction.
Johor Baru mayor Datuk Amran A Rahman said the move to upgrade the village was contained in the draft of Johor Baru Special Area Plan 2030 (RKK 2030).
He said the RKK 2030 was a large scale development plan to rejuvenate the densely populated area to project a new look.
"In the RKK 2030, Kampung Melayu Majidee - which is the oldest village which has been around since the 15th century - will not only be accorded City Heritage status, but will also have its image and identity upgraded.
"It will also become a main tourist attraction. These include maintaining the traditional houses with Limas elements, creating a live museum as well as building an auditorium that offers theatre, orchestra and traditional Malay dance performances.
"We will also give incentives to owners of the traditional homes in the village, for the purpose of beautifying the landscape and conservation efforts, so that tourists can come and see the beauty of the Limas Malay houses."
He was speaking at a press conference after the launch of the Publicity and Public Participation Programme of RKK 2030 here today.
It was launched by chairman of the Local Government, Urban Wellbeing and Environment Committee Tan Chen Choon.
Also present were Johor Baru member of parliament Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Stulang state assemblyman Chen Kah Eng.
Amran said eight zones, involving Kampung Melayu Majidee, Bandar Baru Uda, Larkin, Kebun Teh, Wadi Hana, Taman Pelangi, Stulang and Bakar Batu will be involved in the RKK 2030.
"The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) will also upgrade all historic buildings within the planned RKK, besides constructing recreational areas including near the riverside, landscaping it with murals and graffiti, and beautifying the areas," he said.
Amran said the full development plan of RKK 2030 was being displayed at the Exhibition Room, Level 2 of MBJB’s Department of Planning and Development from today until May 30.
"It is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Johor Baru residents can submit their suggestions or disagreements about the development plan in the forms provided.
"The proposal can also be sent online at www.mbjb.gov.my, or on our Facebook, MBJBrasmi," he added.
