Three women, including two siblings, drowned at Batu Layar beach in Desaru today.

In the 5.30pm incident, the bodies were found by members of the public and were pronounced dead by medical officers who rushed to the location.

The two siblings were identified as Ummu Sulaiin Mohd Rohim, 23, and Siti Hajjar Adila Mohd Rohim, 25. The third victim was identified as Asiah Abdul Rahman, 41, believed to be the siblings’ relative.

Penawar Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Fadli Ismail said they received a call at about 5.35pm.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the team of firemen found the three victims as reported. All the victims were pronounced dead by medical officers and the bodies have been handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

Mohd Fadli said the operation concluded at 6.15pm.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Ashmon Bajah, when contacted, confirmed the matter and classified the case as sudden death.
