Get weather updates through RakanMET

Get weather updates through RakanMET

Whichever part of Malaysia you are in, the RakanMET app allows you to share information and updates on the weather.

RakanMET aims to provide fast and accurate information to the public to ensure that they are better prepared to face extreme weather conditions.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the app was developed by his ministry (Mosti) through the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

“Users can report weather-related incidents in their areas by uploading information onto the app.

“This is done to prevent irresponsible parties from uploading fake information on the app,” he said.

RakanMET is the second app to be developed by Mosti after myCuaca, which was launched in 2015 to provide the public with the latest weather information.

RakanMET was officially launched at the Sabah Weather and Earthquake Operations Centre on Friday, in conjunction with World Meteorological Day.

MetMalaysia director-general Alui Bahari was also present at the event to sign a memorandum of understanding with Universiti Putra Malaysia to mark their collaboration in the field of meteorological science.

Causeway Link S1 Shopping Bus

S1 Shopping Bus

The S1 shopping bus service is designed to attract tourists and provide greater convenience to passengers. It passes through shopping malls like KSL City, City Square, Danga City Mall, Plaza Pelangi and Holiday Plaza. In addition to these shopping malls, the S1 shopping bus also passes along three hotels namely; Hotel Grand Paragon, 11 @ Century Hotel and Mutiara Hotel. And as such, hotel guests from the aforesaid hotels could also take this bus to any of the shopping complex or to JB Sentral from their respective hotels and vice versa.

How does the bus operates

The S1 shopping bus operates from JB Sentral bus interchange which is directly below the Customs and Immigration Building using an escalator going down to this interchange. Wait at bay no 2 for the S1 bus to arrive. It operates at about 20 minutes interval and while waiting, there are many shops selling food and drinks near the bus bays. The bus fare is between RM1 – RM2 depending on where you wish to alight.

Taking a ride on the S1 bus is convenient and affordable. Taking a taxi from JB Sentral to any of these destinations may cost between RM10 – RM15. So there is no reason why one wouldn't take the S1 bus service from JB Sentral to any of the shopping centers or hotels as earlier mentioned.

Park ordered closed over after leptospirosis fears

Park ordered closed over after leptospirosis fears

Biohazard: Authorities collecting water samples at a suspected leptospirosis outbreak site.

The Gunung Berlumut recreational area in Kluang was ordered to close after two children contracted leptospirosis (rat urine disease) there.

Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the siblings, aged five and seven years, went there for a trip with their relatives from Feb 16 to Feb 18.

He said the children started experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting on Feb 18 and were warded at the Kulai Hospital on Feb 23, where they were treated for acute gastroenteritis and discharged the following day.

The leptospirosis notice, however, was issued after their second blood test on March 13 showed the presence of the bacteria.

He said Kulai Health officers immediately investigated and reports showed that nine others who were on the same trip, experienced similar symptoms around the same time.

He said investigations and tests on the affected individuals were still ongoing.

In a statement issued yesterday, Ayub noted that Kluang local authorities recorded two cases of leptospirosis at the recreational area this year, one in January and another in February.

“After the January case, two of five water samples taken tested positive for leptospira,” he said.

Ayub also said the taps at the recreational area, located 32km from Kluang town, sourced their water directly from the river.

He said the Health Department recommended its closure until clean raw water could be supplied to the area.
