Johor will have its first ever Christmas bazaar at an open space in downtown Johor Baru, near Arulmigu Rajamariamman Temple and Gurdwara Sahib.
The Christmas Bazaar @ JB City Centre will be held from Dec 5 until Christmas Day on Dec 25, and themed “Uniknya Pelbagaian Bangsa Johor”.
The event is organised by the Johor Baru Entrepreneurs and Traders Association specialising in products for those celebrating Christmas.
There will be 30 booths at the bazaar offering products such as Christmas trees, decorative items, Christmas cakes, cookies and puddings including the must-have roasted turkey.
“Our members have suggested organising the event as there are bazaars to welcome Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali in Johor Baru,’’ said association secretary Jenny Lim.
She said the association also received support from the state unity, domestic trade and consumerism committee chairman Dr S. Ramakrishnan.
Lim said so far 10 booths had been taken up by traders with rental between RM2,900 and RM3,900 for the bazaar, which would be held for 20 days.
“We hope Sabahans, Sarawakians and Filipinos living in Johor Baru can also take part in the bazaar to showcase their products,’’ she said, adding it could attract Singaporeans shopping for Christmas.
Lim said visitors would have the opportunity to witness multi-cultural performances to celebrate Malaysia and Johor’s uniqueness and diversity on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the main stage.
She said other shows included the appearance of Santa Claus, Santarina and Christmas carolling.
